“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16
John 3:16 may very well be the most easily recognizable verse in the Bible, even in the secular world. We learned it in Sunday School and see a reference to John 3:16 displayed at nearly every sporting event. “For God so loved the world…” rolls off our tongues without much thought. Centuries ago, Jesus came as God’s gift to the world asking only, in exchange for Jesus’ life, that we believe. God’s most precious possession, his son, was given as an example of God’s love, generosity, and commitment to our abundant life.
Eighty-four years ago, the saints of Lakeside United Methodist Church made sacrifices during uncertain times, wartime, in order to build this wonderful facility where we worship today. As I think of all they gave and the sacrifice God gave me in Jesus, I ponder how I can return even a small portion of the blessings received from these sacrifices.
Prayer
Loving and gracious God, help us each discern your will for our gifts for this capital campaign. Help us determine how we can do our part to continue and expand the Kingdom work here at Lakeside United Methodist Church. Amen.
