Philosophy of Education
Children need both play and intellectual experiences in order to develop their concepts and understanding of God's world. Through quality care, we as Christian teachers hope to foster the feelings that are basic to our Christian faith. The children are to feel safe, loved, and valued, because they are precious gifts from God. Our program is designed to meet the spiritual, intellectual, social, physical, and emotional needs of preschool children.

Mission Statement
Lakeside United Methodist Preschool is one of the missions of the congregation of the church. The preschool was formed as an extension of our church to:

• be an outreach to the community
• provide a preschool setting for 3 to 5 year olds
• provide a Christian setting for children to grow spiritually, intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally
• seek to exemplify God's love by providing care and by showing respect for each child as a unique and valued person

Specifically, our goals are:

1. Spiritually -
Learn of God's love for us.
Learn how God wants us to live.
Learn to give, share, and receive affection.

2. Intellectually -
Learn and understand the physical world around us.
Acquire new skills in a learning environment.
Everyday problem solving.
To stimulate curiosity, creativity, and a desire to learn.
Foster the development of language through both listening and speaking.

3. Socially -
To grow in independence.
To develop self-control and discipline.
To help the child learn how to interact positively with peers and adults, individually and in groups.

4. Emotionally -
Gain a sense of pride in accomplishments.
Adjust to new and different situations
Accept success and failure graciously

School hours
We offer a four day program Monday through Thursday from the hours of 9:00 - 12:00 noon. Our church calendar follows that of the Henrico County Public Schools calendar. We are in operation the week after Labor Day and run through the Thursday prior to Memorial Day. You may contact the preschool office by calling (804) 264-5023.

Program Options
Lakeside United Methodist Preschool has obtained a religious exempt status through The Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Social Services. Parents may choose a 3-day or 4-day option. Three day options include Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. Our four day options include Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday.

Chapel, Music/Movement,Story Time, and Cooking
Every Thursday. the children gather in the sanctuary with the Pastor to share fellowship, stories, and music. Every week, the children have music and movement, story time, and cooking with their respective class.

Enrollment
Children may be enrolled at any time during the current school year, provided there is an opening in an age-appropriate class. The cost of the registration is $85.00; however church members do not pay this fee. Please call for the fee schedule.
